What is a ‘Neighbourhood Managed Area’?
A ‘managed area’ aims to bring together people living and working in your area to make changes for the better. They do this by getting different agencies to work together, attracting funding and encouraging local services to be more responsive to local need. Local representatives sit on the Management Board, and include groups like the Residents Associations, Councillors and the Police.
‘Doing Better For Communities’ covers Delapre, Far Cotton, Briar Hill and Camp Hill.
The board puts together what residents are saying with data on the area (such as crime figures) and produces priorities for action. This includes pressing for more appropriate service delivery and addressing disadvantage and social exclusion. We carry out regular consultations, we use ‘Priorities’ cards to find out what’s important to you and spend time attending community meetings and events listening to your views. Residents Associations are also well represented among the Board members.
How can I get involved in Neighbourhood Management?
It is vitally important that we represent our residents. If you live in DBFC we want to here from you. There are many ways to do this.
- Fill in a ‘priorities card’ and leave at your local drop point (see ‘Priorities cards).
- Attend your local Residents Association meeting; they all feedback to the management board.
- Email or phone the Neighbourhood Coordinator. Let us know how your neighbourhood could be improved.
- We also regularly set up Action groups, giving local residents the chance to inform how the board deals with a particular issue. Find info here, or again contact the Coordinator.
What is a ‘Neighbourhood Coordinator?
The coordinators role is to put the Boards priorities into action. This includes securing external funding, training, writing our Delivery Plan and engagement plan and bringing our project ideas to life through working with partners. The coordinator also spends time speaking to local residents and involving them in these project where possible. The Coordinator lets people know what we're up to; where we’ve made progress and where there’s still work to do.
What is the Delivery Plan?
The Delivery Plan sets out the aims of DBFC, a profile of the area and, most importantly, our Action plan. This has a number of projects and initiatives that we will be working on over the next year, and includes measurable targets. The plan can be viewed here. Click here to see the latest Delivery Plan.
